Pen15's bat mitzvah episode was amazingly accurate, I thought (like I really was convinced they somehow saw footage of my own late '90s party for their inspiration)
Why is it that animated shows do b’nai mitzvot better than live action. “Hey Arnold” had a bar mitzvah episode, as did Disney’s “Molly McGee” and “Moon Girl” (bat mitzvah), to name a few. Also of note - Why are the Jewish girls in the Disney animated series a mix of Jewish and Latina (not Sephardi, though).
The Wonder Years has the best episode. It treats the ceremony with respect from the get-go (while most episodes are about how excited the kid is for the party, and then realizes what it all really means).
On the other end, Krusty the Clown's Bar Mitzvah is great. Sydney to the Max has a bat mitzvah episode (up until recently there were NO bat mitzvah episodes) with some good chanting (often the shows skip most or even all of the actual b'nai mitzvah).
definitely Crazy Ex boyfriend!!!!! Patty Lupone as the Rabbi is too much!
THE BEST!!
Although nothing tops Tova feldshuh singing “where’s the bathroom”! I can’t stop laughing even thinking about it.
Freddie Crane’s bar mitzvah on “Frasier!”

These are both excellent questions 🤔
OMG Harold's Bar Mitzvah!!! LOVE! I agree that we need more Sephardi representation, in animated TV and beyond!
