Reality TV of today fills that same voyeuristic need, minus the violence. Our social norms have changed (deteriorated, that's a matter of personal opinion) so that most of the topics that were considered shocking when Jerry Springer aired, are now accepted as quasi-normal. Except for marrying a horse...
I watched it with my husband and we were both so disappointed with how the guests were treated. How they were riled up and coached to be more violent prior to the show.
Also, how could Jerry and the producers not believe that the show had any cause of impact on the brutal murder of that poor guest? I feel that Jerry knew that it was wrong, and was just going along with what his lawyers advised when they interviewed him. Just look at how he looks down in the scene when he’s questioned. Its like he doesn’t believe what he’s saying himself.
I think he must have felt awful to have a murder in any way tied to his show. But just knowing the statistics about intimate partner violence and homicide in this country made me a bit more skeptical about how they could really be at fault.

For the violence, we can always go to UFC.
Never liked the Jerry Springer or Ricki Lake shows (sorry). Definitely not my kind of entertainment.
That's fair!! I don't think I would watch them now when there's so much good stuff to stream on-demand.
